When the nefarious Doctor Robotnik turns up in the Land of the Sky, pleading to world-renowned hero Sonic the Hedgehog for help, Sonic is skeptical. Begrudgingly, he accepts Robotnik's mission to travel deep into the Land of Darkness, where Sonic discovers that trusting Robotnik is always a bad idea. Now Sonic, and his friends, Tails the Fox and Knuckles the Echidna, must face off against the mad Doctor's latest and most dangerous robotic creation.

From a young age, Natsume has been able to see ghosts, Yokai, and more importantly they can see him. Bullied and lonely, Natsume eventually inherits his grandmother's "Book of Friends", a collection of Yokai names that she won in battle against the monsters. A prized possession for many Yokai, Natsume quickly finds himself under the eye of a cat demon, who promises to act as his bodyguard in return for the book itself.
